  16. Hey Hope,

I found your blog last week through the amazing people at Love Bomb. I really wanted to send you a message last Thursday but decided I’d wait, you got so many comments on that post and I didn’t want this to get buried in them. I hope that doesn’t sound selfish!

There probably isn’t much I can say that hasn’t already been said, but I want you to know that when I read your story I knew I had to come by and leave you a message.

I’ve learned a bit about you so I’ll tell you about myself. I had a bad car accident in 2008 and experienced a form of PTSD. A year went by and I didn’t feel I was making the emotional or mental progress that I had wanted to, so I began blogging as a way of hopefully reaching out to other people who were also hurting. As I began to meet people, friendships grew and they helped me heal tremendously. Today I have friends on almost every continent and some have become very close. I treasure them as much as I do my own family.

In the Fall of 2010 I found the blog of a young girl, B., who was and still is battling anorexia nervosa. I had never come across someone with an ED, I knew nothing about what she was going through but it was obvious she was in a very bad place. I sent her words of comfort and she replied with one of the most beautiful messages I’ve ever received (I still have it). I wanted to know more about what she and other people were facing so I began reading up on anorexia, bulimia, binge eating etc. Recently one of my readers told me that she’s actually a friend of B’s and that she too has an eating disorder (EDNOS, you may have heard of it). She’s eighteen.

I’ve learned so much, that EDs are more widespread than people probably realize. I think most people don’t know how to help those who are going through this because it isn’t talked about nearly as much as it should be. I also think there are a lot of people with eating disorders who (in addition to the way they feel about themselves), also feel alone or misunderstood. There are so many on the outside ready to give advice on how to stop, but relatively few who will remain quiet and listen. I want to see this change.

I’ve read through some of your posts from the very first one you wrote and I’ve decided to follow your blog (my avatar is the white cat in the blue knit hat). This is an incredibly scary time for you but I’m really encouraged by your attitude and determination to beat this. It sounds like you’re ready Hope and I truly feel you will in time.

If you’d like to check out my blog I’m at: http://life-in-quotations.blogspot.com/ . I look forward to following along in your journey. :)
